One of the most absurd things about being alive right now is our collective awareness of the horrendous atrocities that go on throughout the world. From the erasure of animal species due to the wanton destruction of natural habitat, on land and at sea, to the violent eradication of swathes of human civilians from this or that corner of the map. These things go on, as they probably always have, but for the first time in our blood-soaked history, we get to witness the shit show in real-time, blow by blow, minute by minute, as the horrors unfold. We watch it all on tiny screens as they wage war, bulldoze paradise, and make a literal killing in the process. We watch on our lunch breaks, dumbstruck, horrified and numb, before we shuffle back to our stations, to trade our precious time for just enough money to put food in our bellies and keep the roofs over our heads.

The Horrors Persist But So Do I is a catchphrase popularized through a series of image macros depicting a guinea pig with pink sunglasses driving a pink toy car. The phrase is likely inspired by the similar phrase The Horrors Are Endless, But I Stay Silly and was popularized throughout 2023, with some of the earliest examples appearing in April and May of that year.
